Over 35 vendors, exhibitors and organizations had a presence, clearly demonstrating that we have so many things we can do to address the global climate, environmental and energy challenges we face, and there are so many people who are already committed to making a difference. While we don't have exact numbers, estimates are between 200 and 300 people milled through during the day.

So from here, we will continue promote patronization and participation in all that was present that day, and to continually expand the community network. If sustainability is going to happen, it will be when communities can optimally meet their own needs and not have to exploit/bribe/cheat what they need from others. While our world is interdependent, I believe there is much we can do to bring justice to all people and meet our needs as well. My hope is that this fair is the start of demonstrating that this community can be a model for making it all happen.

Special thanks to Sarah Milone and Andy Richmond at COD, and to Nicky Parks for her music. And of course, thanks to all who made the day happen!

WELCOME!

We are excited to announce the "Sustainable Living in the Suburbs" Fair. This one-day event will be held at College of DuPage on June 9 from 9AM to 3:30PM. The purpose of the day is to both raise the community dialog about the environmental and energy challenges we face, and for those actively involved in the dialog, to turn it into action by making choices every day that help decrease our consumption and lessen our footprint on the earth.

Energy and the Environment will be the defining challenges for the next 50 years. Along with preventable diseases such as HIV/AIDS, these issues can either be addressed as a global community now or later, but the longer we wait, the heavier the cost and the more deadly the toll. We cannot afford to sit on the sidelines and wait for others to take the lead. As all who participate in this event will see, we actually have many answers at our fingertips. We just have to make the commitment to change - the little things as well as the big. This will be a day to increase the level of talk and action.

In addition to vendors of everything from recycled and organic everyday products to alternative and renewable energy solutions for home and daily living, there will be hands-on demonstrations to learn about what it takes to produce energy, and the impact of chemical run-off on our community. There will also be workshops, education seminars, and community dialogs about what every individual, family, and organization can do to make a difference and to make a statement.

This event is completely free to the entire community, so please plan to join us.
